The fifties were a seminal time in human history. Large numbers of young men were happy to be alive and back home after a terrible war. Throughout the world, people were anxious to rebuild their lives and countries.
It was a time when the technological advances made during the war were introduced into mainstream society. These advances spawned some of the underpinnings of greater American affluence and attendent social change. They were also the buttress that supported the hope of the world to rebuild its devastated societies, spirit and hope for a better tomorrow.
One of these advances was the development of the transistor in 1947 that was to so dramatically change society. One of the first uses of transitors was in radios, in fact, radios were initially a venue to find a commercial use for transistors.
